Is there a specific time frame in which students are required to declare a major in your department? If yes, when? Early. As soon as a student has determined their major, complete 2 courses, one theater/dance and one performance studies, in the lower division requirements, as a confirmation of their intention. 2. Does the Undergraduate Adviser (staff) sign the Education Abroad Program academic planning form, or must a faculty adviser (professor) sign? Undergraduate Advisor 3. Should we advise students to make an appointment to have their academic planning form signed in your department? If so, do they need to bring a transcript or any other supplemental materials with them to their appointment? Undergraduate Advisor available 1-4 PM daily. No transcript is necessary. 4. What is the maximum amount of major credit given for courses taken during the education abroad program? Is this maximum calculated by number of courses or by units of credit? Please explain. We would limit the amount of coursework transferring in to 8 units. If courses are similar to the courses offered in TDPS as an elective, and they come back with a letter grade, they will generally transfer into the major. We had not had anyone transfer in lots of units. 5. Are students in your department able to undertake senior honors theses the semester following EAP participation or are there restrictions? Please explain. Yes, they can submit their Honors Forms from afar or a semester earlier. 6. Does your department calculate EAP grades into the departmental GPA? Yes, if they are letter-graded on the transcript. 7. Are EAP grades counted towards departmental honors? Yes, if they are letter-graded on the transcript. 8. If you represent a department which teaches foreign language, does your department award major credit for the courses taken during the Intensive Language Program (ILP) portion of the EAP program? If so, please explain. N/A 9. Does your department distribute a special information sheet for your majors which includes advice on how to articulate participation with EAP with the major? No 10. If yes, do you also provide this information on your departmental website? What is the URL? No 11. Finally, most EAP students are required to officially declare their major before departure. Returning EAP students who attempt to register through Tele-BEARS from abroad need adviser codes to pre-enroll for courses. What is your departmental policy on releasing advisor codes (AC's) to EAP students? They can contact me from afar and we can discuss their intended cours of study on email or phone and I will then release an advisor code. |
