Fulbright Preacademic Program

Welcome to the Fulbright Preacademic Program at UC Berkeley, International and Area Studies!

If you are a Fulbright fellow, please fill out and submit our pre-registration form. This program offers limited enrollment. Participation in the Fulbright Preacademic Program at Berkeley is exclusively reserved for Fulbright fellows that Institute of International Education (IIE) has assigned to the UC Berkeley campus.

The Fulbright fellowship fosters international leadership, understanding and cooperation. The US State Department Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Fulbright Commission offer the Fulbright Preacademic Program to help prepare future leaders in business, civic and government for successful graduate and professional school study in the US. Fellows come together from around the world to deepen their understanding of US academic culture and society. The Institute of International Educational administers the Fulbright Preacademic Program and provides information and assistance to Fulbright fellows. Like Institute of International Education and Department of State, UC Berkeley International and Area Studies is committed to helping prepare global leaders who will serve their countries and foster collaboration between their countries and the United States. With this in mind, we have developed the Program at Berkeley to encourage fellows to develop or hone skills that will enable them to be successful as creative, engaged, and independent students.

The Fulbright Preacademic Program at UC Berkeley offers Fulbright fellows access to a premier research university nested in a uniquely cosmopolitan and multicultural US metropolis. Program seminars and activities allow fellows to hone their academic research and communication skills. Because of its commitment to international education and research, International and Area Studies has a distinguished record of providing institutional support for more than 6,000 students and scholars from around the world through its Services for International Students and Scholars Office (SISS). Hosting the Fulbright Preacademic Program provides IAS the opportunity to deepen its commitment to global service by encouraging collaboration between scholars and students around the world. Visiting international students and faculty provide the IAS academic community the opportunity to forge new academic relationships and friendships. On the UC Berkeley campus, fellows will have access to over 50 top research libraries and collections.
