The Director of International Protocol coordinates the
visits of high-level foreign visitors and delegations
to the Berkeley campus, including heads of state,
government officials and senior academic officials
and delegations. The Director works with groups whose
interests concern university administration, the current
state of higher education or range across several
academic disciplines to schedule meetings, if possible,
with relevant University representatives . Visitors
with a specific, singular scholarly interest should
contact the relevant Berkeley department, school or
college directly. The most effective visits to campus are those that are
planned during the regular academic year when the
campus is staffed with a full complement of faculty
and administrators. Visits are possible during the
summer, but because many faculty and faculty administrators
are away from campus conducting research, often not
all requests can be accommodated. The semester break
that occurs in December and January and Spring break
are also a difficult times to schedule visits to the
campus. Visits cannot be scheduled for university
holidays when the campus is closed. Please refer to
http://www.chance.berkeley.edu/planning/calendar.html
for the current academic calendar. A minimum of three weeks advance notice of your visit is
preferred to enable scheduling of meetings. To schedule
appropriate meetings and inform those at Berkeley
that will meet with the visitors, we will need detailed
information about the topics to be discussed, brief
biographical information about the individual visitors,
as well as information about the organization the
visitors represent. All meetings will be conducted
in English. We are unable to provide translating services
for visitors. In addition, we regret that we are unable
to assist you in arranging hotel accommodations and
transportation to campus. For information about these
topics and others that may be of interest to you please
refer to the various websites listed below.
