Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition

Antivirus software from Symantec protects your computer from viruses.

What is a virus?

A virus is a program that infects a computer by atttaching itself to another program, and propagating itself when that program is executed. A computer can become infected by files downloaded over a network, or by the installation of new software or CDsthat are infected with viruses. Some viruses are only pranks, and perform harmless actions like displaying a screen with a joke message on it. Others can destroy files or wipe out a hard drive. Knowingly spreading a computer virus is a crime punishable by law.

Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition

Norton AntiVirus routinely checks your hard drive and floppy disks for viruses.  If one is found by the program, do not attempt to clean the virus yourself.  Instead, please call IAS-CSS at 642-2522.

Virus Definitions

The Virus definitions used by Norton must be updated regularly. Your computer should be set to regularly update them through the "liveupdate" process. Most IAS computers are set to update the virus definitions weekly. In the event of an active virus attack you may be asked to update your virus definitions immediately and scan your computer for evidence of viruses.

Please follow the directions listed below:

It is important, especially for home users that you update your virus definitions. If you can't because of limits on user rights, or if you don't know how, send us an email and we will help.
