  Organization description: Since 1947, AFS Intercultural Programs has been leading international high school student exchange. AFS was founded by volunteer American Field Service ambulance drivers from World Wars I and II who believedâ as AFS believes todayâ that the way to build a more just and peaceful world begins when people from different countries meet, learn about each other, and begin to understand each other. Today, AFS is a worldwide, nonprofit organization that exchanges more than 11,000 students each year among a partnership of more than 50 AFS partner countries. More than 300,000 individuals have studied abroad with AFS and live in more than 100 countries around the world. AFS is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and is a volunteer-driven organization, with more than 8,000 U.S. volunteers and 30,000 worldwide.

  Organization description: The mission of the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) at UC Berkeley is to promote research and community awareness about issues affecting Latin America.   Organization description: The Center for Southeast Asia Studies (CSEAS) presents on-campus lecture series and cultural programs free and open to public.     Organization description: World Bridges promotes peace and justice by creating opportunities for diverse young people from low income backgrounds to collaborate, raise awareness, and take action, locally and globally. Through leadership development, participatory trainings, and international exchanges, World Bridges provides a continuum of experiences that nurture personal growth and empower participants to build alliances across communities and cultures. Our core program is the Leadership Exchange Program which supports young adults from low-income backgrounds in gaining the experience, knowledge, and skills required to be effective, globally-minded leaders in multicultural and international environments. This eight-month program involves participants in a series of local (Bay Area based) workshops and service-learning projects that promote global citizenship and that provide opportunities to take action on social justice and international solidarity issues. In the summer months, participants travel abroad on their own for the first time, to take part in short-term service projects organized by our international partners. World Bridges pays 80% of all program and travel costs. In addition to the Leadership Exchange Program, we also offer training services (primarily to schools and nonprofits that work with youth and young adults) through our Crossing Borders Consulting project, to promote intercultural learning, travel preparedness and multi-cultural alliance building.
    World Bridges is the result of a merger between World PULSE and BRIDGES, two international volunteer exchange organizations that have been operating in the Bay Area for nine years. We look forward to collaborating with other internationally-minded folks!
