International and Area Studies - Berkeley Rotary Center

The Berkeley Rotary Center
For Rotarians

The University of California, Berkeley has been chosen by the Rotary Foundation to be one of the seven Rotary Center for International Studies in Peace in Conflict Resolution.

The Berkeley Rotary Center is administered by International and Area Studies, the coordinating body for 51 international teaching, research, service and exchange programs and Area Centers. Many Berkeley Rotary World Peace Scholars live at International House which is also affiliated with International and Area Studies.

Each year, ten new Rotary World Peace Scholars will be selected by Rotary International to study at each Center in a two-year master's level degree or certificate program emphasizing international relations and peace and conflict resolution. Specific questions regarding the fellowship application process as well as eligibility and selection criteria for the Rotary World Scholars Program should be directed to Rotary International Educational Programs at: rotarycenters@rotaryintl.org.

Professor Edwin M. Epstein, Chair of Peace and Conflict Studies Program, is the Director of the Rotary Center at Berkeley. Interested UC Berkeley faculty and Rotarians are welcome to contact him at: eepstein@berkeley.edu

Club Activities

Speakers
The scholars are expected and encouraged to give regular talks at club meetings. Of course, the scholars need to schedule their speaking engagements in ways that do not jeopardize their studies, so please contact Susan Wait at Swait2@aol.com with your requests. Note: non-Rotarians are welcome to attend these special speaking engagements.

International Service Projects
The scholars are also excellent resources for assisting with club international service. Please approach them for consultation if they have relevant expertise. Through personal conversations, you will discover shared interests. Some scholars may even be interested in joining you!
