GETTING TO UC BERKELEY

Participants and visitors can book their flights to either Oakland International (OAK) or San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Flights arriving to Oakland from other parts of the country are usually slightly cheaper, but this is by no means a standard rule, so make sure to evaluate all options. We do not recommend booking flights to San Jose Airport, as it is too far and not easily accessible by train.

Both OAK and SFO airports are accessible by public transportation. Regional BART trains run between 5 AM and 12 AM, and will take passengers directly to Downtown Berkeley station from both airports. However, in Oakland, travelers will need to take the AIR Bart Bus to get to the train station from the airport--tickets cost $3 (make sure to bring exact change). From SFO, one way train tickets to Berkeley cost $5.90, from Colosseum Station/Oakland Airport they are $2.20 (plus the additional $3 for the bus). Having arrived to downtown Berkeley BART station, those who have made reservations at the Durant hotel can walk, take a cab or take the bus line #51, #7 or #1R going toward the UC campus (eastbound). All of these buses stop at the corner of Durant Avenue and Bowditch Street where the hotel is located.

Alternatively, participants may choose to get shuttle transportation with Bay Porter Express. When seeking transport from Oakland International to Berkeley, the cost is $25 (plus $2 per bag and tip for the driver); if coming from San Fransisco International, the flat rate is $29. Taxis are always an option, albeit a more expensive one, especially from San Francisco to Berkeley.
